First, use a degreaser and wire brush to take away grease and dirt from the crankcase. Scrub all areas you have added the degreaser to then rub it off with a clean cloth. Rinse the crankcase methodically with soap and water. Cut a piece of scrap aluminum to coat the hole in your crankcase by using “C” clamps to clamp the sheet of aluminum to your table. Use a circular saw with a carbide blade to cut the aluminum in order to end up with a rectangle covers the hole, extending at least one inch beyond the hole, on all sides. Rub a candle on the blade of the saw to further lubricate it, but do not melt it. The heat from sawing will melt it during cutting, allowing the blade to be lubricated. Heat your crankcase and the scrap aluminum patch using a propane torch where the scrap touches the outer areas of the hole in the crankcase. Aluminum solder melts at a lower temperature than aluminum, so put the flame right on to the solder. Instead, heat the metal and then touch the solder to the metal where the patch and the crankcase meet and create a seam. The solder will melt and run into the seam. Next, solder the inside of the patch by adding aluminum solder to the inside of the crankcase you patched it. Place the solder along the seam formed by the edges of the hole and patch. Apply liquid repair sealant that comes in a tube that you use on metal parts to stop leaks. After the solder and the metal are at room temperature, put on the sealant to the inside seam by running the tip along the seam you are sealing. Use water in and around the crankcase and let it to set overnight.
